Travel

Now that you're booked to visit Bvlbancha to attend PS23, the next step is getting from the airport to your hotel (more info on booking hotels below). Unfortunately there are no shuttles available at the airport, but we encourage you to join our travel and lodging Slack channel to ask to see who else is arriving around the same time as you. Self-organize and reach out to those folks to set up a carpool with Uber or Lyft and split the cost. There is a list available in that same Slack channel for all attendees to mark down when they're arriving to make the process easier.

To make the process a bit less overwhelming for when y’all arrive, a Power Shift volunteer with a “Welcome to Power Shift” sign will also be posted in the baggage claim area on Wednesday afternoon, April 5th and Thursday, April 6th, to help you figure out transit and meet up with other attendees to share ride services or take transit together.

From the airport, there are several ways to get to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center where PS23 will be held.

PUBLIC TRANSIT: The best way is to board the 202 Airport Express bus at the airport (operated by RTA) which costs $1.25 and can be paid either in exact cash or on your phone in the multi-city Transit App. Get off at the Loyola @ Howard stop. From there, walk forward one more block to Julia St, then take a right and walk along Julia St until you reach the Convention Center, about 15 minutes. The 202 bus runs every hour and a half, but the ride itself is fast.

You can also take the E1 bus (marked Veterans-Airport, operated by Jefferson Parish Transit) from the airport, which costs $2 and can only be paid in cash. This bus runs more frequently but the ride itself is longer with more stops. You'll want to get off at the Loyola @ Poydras stop, then take a left and walk east along Poydras St for about 15 minutes. Make a right onto Convention Center Blvd and you'll arrive at the Convention Center in a few blocks.

Board either bus from the outer curb outside the airport's level 3 ticket lobby. The trip from the airport to downtown is about half an hour on the 202 and an hour on the E1, not including walking time.

TAXI & RIDE SHARE: Taxis and Lyfts/Ubers cost about the same from the airport to the Convention Center, around $37. (Taxis for 3 or more people charge $15/rider, and all taxis accept credit cards.) For taxis, just walk to the queue and take the next available vehicle; for Lyft/Uber, there will be queues of drivers at the airport and your app will give you a PIN which you'll give to the next available driver. Taxis board outside of Level 1 (baggage claim) door 7, Lyfts board outside of doors 7-9, and Ubers outside of doors 9-11. The ride is about half an hour.
